This legal drama marks the directorial debut of JJ Fredrick, who has also written the film. It’s protagonist is Jyotika, a lawyer who is fighting the patriarchal society. It has been co-produced by her husband Suriya, and the couple had to go through quite a twisted road to get here. First Jyotika had to face online trolling after she questioned why schools and hospitals didn’t get as many donations as temples in an awards function. Next, since they decided to go the digital way, theatre owners in Tamil Nadu have decided to go the digital way.

2. GULABO SITABO (HINDI)

When two powerhouse actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana are directed by a critically acclaimed director like Shoojit Sircar, there are no doubts left about how good this film would be. It tells the story of a quirky family and narrates day to day struggles in a comedic way. Among all the movies on Amazon Prime Video, this one is not to be missed.

3. PENGUIN (TAMIL AND TELUGU)

A new edition to the women-centric movies on Amazon Prime Video is Penguin. While the plot is not completely clear, it seems to be centred around pregnancy based on the posters and artwork. It features Keerthy Suresh in the lead and is written and directed by Eashvar Karthic.

4. LAW (KANNADA)

Marking the debut of actress Ragini Chandran, Law is another film joining the roster of movies on Amazon Prime Video that you should look forward to. She will be playing the role of a law graduate and is involved in her own case, due to very personal reasons. It also has veteran actor Mukhyamantri Chandru play the role of the judge in this film. This one is directed and written by Raghu Samarth.

5. FRENCH BIRYANI (KANNADA)

This movie, directed by Pannaga Bharana, features Danish Sait as an auto driver and Sal Yusuf as a French expatriate and tell the story of their 3-day journey together. It promises to be a laughter riot and we have no doubts about that considering Sait’s comedy timing. Among all the comedy movies on Amazon Prime Video, this one is not to be missed.

6. SHAKUNTALA DEVI (HINDI)

Another film joining the list of biographical movies on Amazon Prime Video is the Vidya Balan-starrer Shankuntala Devi. In case you have never heard of this name before, Shankuntala Devi is more famously known as the human computer, who can solve complex calculations within seconds. Not only is she a mathematical genius, she was also a writer and an astrologer. This movie is also set to feature Sanya Malhotra and will be directed by Anu Menon. We honestly cannot wait to see Vidya Balan in action once again.

7. SUFIYUM SUJATAYUM (MALAYALAM)

This Malayalam flick is written and directed by Naranipuzha Shanavas of Karie fame. It features Aditi Rao Hydari and Jayasurya in lead roles. Producer Vijay Babu describes the film as a “thrilling musical affair of hearts”. Sufiyum Sujatayum is the first Malayalam film to have a digital premiere only. The producer explained this decision as one they had to take to cope with the financial losses caused by the pandemic and help those who depend on cinema for their daily wages.
